PAST INITIATIVES

Spill the Honey has developed and produced Shared Legacies: The African-American Jewish Civil Rights Alliance, a feature length documentary film that focuses on a proud chapter in modern American history when two communities of different backgrounds collaborated to transform the moral conscience of the nation. The powerful lessons of this crucial history must be remembered. For too many people today, the history of African Americans and Jews coming together has never been shared nor heard. We believe that that this relationship is, and can be, an inspiration that allows for people now to transcend their differences and cooperate so that future generations can participate in a vibrant pluralism. To date, Spill the Honey has captured more than 150 hours of film interviews with living witnesses to history in a 95 minute documentary

In addition, Spill the Honey has:

organized educational events for over 200 high school students at the Detroit Holocaust Museum.

commemorated the 50th anniversary of MLK’s “I Have A Dream” Speech” for over 900 Detroit high school students featuring Rev. King’s personal lawyer, Dr. Clarence B. Jones.

accepted an invitation from the Malibu Film Society to show excerpts of the film before 300 people with and a panel discussion with Clarence Jones, Susannah Heschel, Lou Gossett Jr., and Dr. Hillel Levine who are participants in the film. Publisher David Suissa of the LA Jewish Journal is featuring this event in an upcoming issue.

produced educational events in both Atlanta and Detroit in honor of Rev. King’s Birthday for over 900 high school students.

created an ongoing partnership between two high schools in Atlanta with histories going back to the African American-Jewish alliance of the 1960s. The students performed a rap song about the the historic alliance. They are collaborating to help homeless people in their city. These two high schools continue to meet annually.
